I finally sent Dou-Hua to the vet's to have this horrible operation last Saturday. It is called spay or ovariohysterectomy. It is a surgical procedure in which both ovaries and most of the uterus are removed from the body. Therefore, she won't have heat (estrus) cycles nor reproduce anymore. The vet  told me that she would also be saved from the possibility of a severe infection of the uterus (pyometra). Even though I know there are some advantages for her to have the operation, for me, it was still a tough decision to make. I was not sure if I had the right to remove the part of her body and deprive her of the right of  reproduction.  The operation actually took the vet less than an hour to perform but the worst part started after I took her home. She suffered a lot from the anesthesia and  pain in the abdomen, and stopped eating for two days. I felt so quilty and sad when seeing her shrinking herself under the bed, looking extremely terrified and in great pain.  Fortunately, she started eating on Monday evening and walked around in the house again. I hope she will recover soon and the decision can be proven right.
